Some people believe that ideas just come to mind and there are no set rules that you can follow to come out with something new. But there are so many fields that constantly require new ideas with a certain deadline. In those circumstances you can not afford to just wait for an idea to hit you and a proactive approach is needed to come out with the required idea in a certain period of time. It is at this moment that the right training of your mind comes into picture.
We have logical and imaginative sides of our brain and the active side becomes dominant in accordance with the use. As we all know that most people use only ten percent of their brain power; we can increase that percentage by activating both sides of our brain. What we can do is to do something that has no connection with our work; it would certainly open a new perspective and we would be exposed to new things. In some companies where training is of utmost importance, they make sure that at least 20 percent of the time of their employees would be spent on doing something that is not relevant to their designated roles in the company. We can apply that approach on personal level as well and can start it by subscribing to magazines like National Geographic, Scientific American and Architectural Record. Even while reading fiction or non-fiction we can go with variety and topics from psychology, anthropology to science can be explored. The variety would open new avenues in our brain and while trying hit and trial methods to come out with an idea, we would have several options to go with. This way, our probability of coming out with a new idea increases manifold.
I am experimenting the method on myself and it seems to be working. I hope that someone else would also be benefited with it as I am sharing my thoughts.
